Robert Borthwick was selected to be the principal planner and landscape architect for the $3.5 million waterfront enhancement project. Design improvements were to include the creation of new pedestrian-only streets, public plazas, and refurbishment of the famous Casino Walkway. The original improvements were installed in the 1920's and early 1930's by the Wrigley family and were historically significant. A series of public design workshops were held to achieve consensus on this highly controversial project, and the design has been extremely well-received by both residents and visitors to the island. The City of Avalon and BGB, Inc. received the ASLA National Centennial Medallion Award, the ASLA Merit Award for Historic Preservation and Restoration Design, and the Greater Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Urban Design Award.

OLIVE HILLS DOG PARK
Anaheim, Calif.
Olive Hills Dog Park was constructed in 2016 in the Anaheim Hills area. The site is 1.3 acres in size and includes specific areas for both small and large dogs. Due to soil contamination and compaction from previous site uses, it was decided to utilize a nearly 100% native plant palette. Permeable concrete, decomposed granite, and synthetic turf provide surfaces for maximum on-site water retention and sustainability. It is intended that no irrigation will be necessary as the park landscaping matures. In addition, a solar-powered restroom is provided.

NORTH BEACH PROMENADE
Oceanside, Calif.
North Beach Promenade is a mixed-use "Wrap Project", with four levels of luxury apartments over ground-level retail uses, surrounding a multi-level public and private parking garage. Situated in downtown Oceanside, the project is walking distance from the pier. NBP features a major street-level plaza and a roof-deck ocean-view recreation area.
