Massachusetts-Based Industry Pioneer Reemerges With A Focus on Curb
Fletcher and Chelmsford are synonymous. Chelmsford granite has been quarried in Westford, Massachusetts since the 1800s and has been heavily used in the Eastern United States while supplying stone to projects across the country and overseas. In 1881, Herbert Ellery Fletcher - who was 18 years old at the time - founded the Chelmsford Quarry located at 535 Groton Road, now the only dimensional Chelmsford quarry in operation.
A Legacy
Several generations of the Fletcher family operated the company until the ownership changed hands in 1985 after 104 years of continuous quarrying and fabrication at the Westford site. Fletcher has since changed ownership several times, now owned and operated by the founders of Structural Stone, LLC, a leading North American dimension stone fabricator who brought Fletcher back to its family-owned origin.
