Landscape Architects at DEA provided conceptual and final design services for a new outdoor amphitheater and multipurpose urban park. The project features a dynamic, origami-inspired stage structure with state-of-the-art lighting and sound, interactive playgrounds, turf seating slopes, plazas, walkways, lighting, and restrooms. Designed to support professional stage productions, the venue hosts major community events, including the world-famous Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The amphitheater also supports regional music festivals in the Coachella Valley and promotes accessible, community-centric cultural, educational, and recreational activities through connections to public transit, walking, and bicycling networks.
This 21.5-acre facility includes four tennis courts, half-court basketball, and a double synthetic turf field for high school sports. A specially designed second synthetic turf field provides a unique regional recreation resource serving those with physical or developmental disabilities. Centrally located are an inclusive playground, a plaza and event space, restroom and concession buildings, picnic shelters, a parking lot, trails, and a community garden. Creative stormwater management facilities integrate native plantings and improve water quality and habitat. DEA led the professional services team and provided project management, surveying, environmental planning, permitting, public engagement, landscape architecture, architecture, and civil and structural engineering. The project received a 2018 award from the Oregon Recreation & Parks Association.
Spanning approximately 1,200 acres, this residential community integrates a variety of residential neighborhoods, parks, trails, civic spaces, schools, retail amenities, and recreational facilities within a walkable setting. The master plan emphasizes preservation of the site's natural character while accommodating long-term regional growth. The development incorporates extensive open space systems, environmentally sensitive areas, regional stormwater infrastructure, and low-impact development practices that support sustainable land use and community resilience. Today, Ten Trails continues to evolve as a growing residential and mixed-use destination that blends modern community planning with the natural beauty and heritage of Black Diamond and the surrounding Pacific Northwest landscape.
DEA's Landscape Architects and civil engineers transformed a former rail corridor into a four-mile multi-use trail that reconnects neighborhoods while expanding recreational and mobility opportunities throughout the community. The project blends separated pedestrian and bicycle pathways with native landscaping, site furnishings, lighting, parking, and accessible connections that create a safe and inviting experience for users of all ages. The team also coordinated complex environmental remediation, grading, stormwater compliance, and geotechnical integration to prepare the corridor for long-term public use. Thoughtfully designed gathering spaces, maintenance access, and dual-purpose trail systems support both everyday transportation and outdoor recreation.
Our design team is transforming the Main Street Corridor into a vibrant, pedestrian-focused destination that celebrates community identity and sparks renewed economic interest. The revitalization blends signature gateways, decorative lighting, enhanced landscaping and hardscape, public art, and thoughtfully designed streetscape amenities to create a more welcoming and memorable downtown experience. By improving walkability, strengthening visual character, and encouraging community gathering, the project is designed to attract visitors, support local businesses, and inspire future investment along the corridor. More than a streetscape enhancement effort, the Main Street Revitalization Project establishes a renewed sense of place that reflects the community's vision for a dynamic, connected, and economically thriving downtown.
