The Playgrounds Issue of Landscape Architect and Specifier News saw many firms submit their projects for feature consideration. Hero Park Universally Accessible Playground is one of several great projects we are excited to showcase on LandscapeArchitect.com.

Designed by Upland Design Ltd with inclusion at its heart, Hero Park breaks down barriers and invites kids of all abilities to play, explore, and imagine together. The project reflects a progressive trend in playground design-from compliance-driven accessibility toward social inclusion. Though many U.S. playgrounds meet baseline accessibility standards, many still lack ramped connections to upper-level play (arguably the "fun-est" place.) At the same time, roughly 80% of parents support inclusive play environments.

 
When you arrive, you'll find the large playground feels welcoming and full of possibility. A springy surface cushions every step, jump, and roll, while wide winding ramps make it easy for everyone to reach the highest points of play. Transfer stations, supportive seating, and easy-to-grip handholds help kids move confidently from one activity to another.

There's something exciting around every corner. Climbers tilt and twist at just the right angles to challenge and delight, while high-back inclusive swings offer a secure way to soar. Slides-both sleek stainless steel and colorful molded designs-invite laughter-filled races to the bottom. Musical elements add a playful soundtrack, and interactive panels spark curiosity and creativity.

Whether kids are playing together or diving into their own imaginative worlds, Hero Park encourages connection in ways that feel natural and fun. With plenty of shade to keep things cool and a comfortable picnic area, it's a place where families can linger, laugh, and make memories.
