by Kat Riggsby, LASN

Florida House Bill 607 Officially Died in the Commerce Committee in mid-March 2026.

LASN previously reported on the status of Florida House Bill 607 in the February 2026 Lighting issue. At the time, CLARB encouraged Floridian firm owners to write letters of opposition to the state capitol. On March 13th, 2026, House Bill 607 died in the Florida House Commerce Committee. The bill entered its final stop in the House Commerce Committee two months ago.

Had HB 607 passed, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation would have provided licensing authority to landscape architects, rather than the Board of Landscape Architecture. The powers, duties, and responsibilities of the professional boards would have been transferred to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation as well. The bill was originally set to take effect in July 2026.

Presently, the licensing authority for landscape architects in Florida is still handled by the Board of Landscape Architects.
