Effective August 3, 2026, following legislative approval of HJR 1091, Oklahoma's updated requirements establish greater consistency with other jurisdictions while maintaining the state's focus on public protection.
"Aligning with the CLARB Uniform Standard gives Oklahomans a clearer, more consistent path to licensure while keeping our focus where it belongs: protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public," said Leslie Hanska, executive director of the Oklahoma Board of Governors of Architects, Landscape Architects and Licensed Interior Designers.
In Colorado, the State Board of Landscape Architects adopted the requirements in mid-July, with the rule going into effect on September 14, 2026. The board also implemented a transition period through June 30, 2027, to accommodate current candidates.
The revisions adopt the national two-year experience standard for qualified applicants, reduce barriers to licensure, and improve reciprocity and professional mobility. Oklahoma also updated its examination and licensure provisions to reflect CLARB's current administration of the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.)

As of August 3, Oklahoma has modernized its landscape architecture licensure requirements, with Colorado following soon after on September 14, 2026.

Colorado and Oklahoma have adopted the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards' (CLARB) Uniform Licensure Standard for Landscape Architecture, making them the 9th and 10th U.S. states and 10th and 11th CLARB member boards to implement the national standard.
