Alaska Overrides Veto To Extend Sunset
Licensure board safe through 2033
Despite receiving a veto from Alaskan Governor Mike Dunleavy, House Bill 314 is now law following a 29-11 vote overriding the governor's decision. The law updates regulations regarding Landscape Architects and other design professionals, redefining that a Landscape Architect "registrant" is a "Professional Landscape Architect," expanding the scope of requirements, and pushing the board's sunset date to June 30, 2033, among other amendments. Governor Dunleavy vetoed the bill based on its inclusion of interior designers who do not currently require a license to practice, voicing a hesitation to expand legislative oversight where none is currently demanded. ASLA National supported the Alaska Chapter's efforts to pass the bill, and counts the override a success.
