The NEH grant will fund a workshop to provide educators with tools for including the principles of landscape architecture in their humanities courses.
The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Fund recently received a $190,000 competitive grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities for an environmental humanities workshop that will encourage interdisciplinary instruction in K-12 programs.
This grant falls under the Landmarks of American History and Culture award category, which supports one-week workshops for K-12 and college educators that strengthens humanities teaching, specifically in regard to understanding American history and culture. With the funds, the ASLA Fund will hold a series of design-centered workshops for 72 educators selected from around the country to equip them in including design and nature-based perspectives in their humanities courses. Participants will experience culturally significant landscapes the Washington, D.C. region under the guidance of ASLA leaders, K-12 specialists, and Landscape Architects.
