While AI seems to be largely impacting the work supporting landscape architecture, there is little evidence that it is being used to do the work itself, and there is demand for development in AI training and tools to better equip Landscape Architects. (Photo made with Google Gemini)

A joint survey sent out at the end of 2025 by the AAPC, ASLA, CSLA, and IFLA on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in landscape architecture reveals that Landscape Architects are largely relying on the technology for business tasks adjacent to their design work.

The most common cited uses involved gathering and searching through literature and other sources, writing, or other pre-design and business development tasks. Three-quarters of respondents attribute increased efficiency in their tasks to their use of AI, with roughly the same number sharing ethical concerns regarding accuracy, intellectual property, and the impact on entry-level positions. The report shares a need for structured training as well as active involvement in framing AI use to protect the integrity of the profession. There is great opportunity for the creation of profession-specific courses and AI tools, especially regarding plant specification.
