Major industry leaders recently joined forces to create the Healthy Green Spaces Coalition (HGSC), a group that aims to "promote the value of healthy, sustainable landscapes and turfgrass by advocating for policies that support responsible water use and environmental stewardship in landscape management."
The HGSC website features facts about green spaces and their benefits, the most recent research on water management and green spaces, connection to experts in each aspect of the industry, and updates on legislation the coalition is keeping an eye on. Readers can learn about things like the effects of plant material in urban heat islands, sponge cities, and the financial and social implications of landscape renovation. The coalition intends to add more educational material and resources for professionals and invested citizens to advocate in their local government and make informed decisions on the property they maintain.
Lead partners in the project include Hunter Industries, the National Association of Landscape Professionals, Rain Bird, and ScottsMiracle-Gro alongside supporting partners SiteOne Landscape Supply, the Texas Nursery & Landscape Association, and Ewing Outdoor Supply.
