H.R.7148, recently signed into law by President Donald Trump, allocates almost $200 million for transportation-related support to cities hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Olympics and Paralympics.
Section 166 of the law states that $100.3 million will be "available for grants to transit agencies for costs related to eligible planning, capital, and operating expenses for equipment and facilities" for "domestic host cities" of the FIFA World Cup 2026. An additional $94.3 million will be available for the same purposes regarding the 2028 Olympic Games. This funding is especially important for the upcoming "no-car" Olympics, requiring spectators to walk, bicycle, or utilize public transportation in Southern California cities historically known for an emphasis on vehicular transit. tinyurl.com/lasn-36262
