Landworks Studio embraced the opportunity to support this vision through pro bono design services, approaching the project with an emphasis on both functionality and meaning. This led to the development of the Full Circle Concept, a design rooted in connection, inclusion, and shared stewardship. The concept reflects the cyclical nature of food systems, community engagement, and giving back - values that closely align with the Ruby Jean's Foundation mission.
At the heart of the Full Circle Concept is a central gathering space designed to bring people together. Both pedestrian and vehicular circulation are thoughtfully accommodated, ensuring the garden is accessible and welcoming from multiple entry points. Core activities such as outdoor cooking, education, and social gatherings are concentrated at the center of the site to foster interaction and shared experiences. Community tables, a fire pit, and flexible open areas support events ranging from small neighborhood meetings to larger celebrations.
Raised planting beds are integrated into the gathering space and are designated for commonly used herbs and vegetables to support outdoor cooking and educational programming. These beds are designed at an accessible height and placed on decomposed granite to ensure ADA accessibility. A repurposed shipping container located near the north entry provides storage and serves as an outdoor kitchen anchor, reinforcing sustainability through adaptive reuse. Bistro string lighting extends the usability of the space into the evening.
Supporting elements are carefully positioned throughout the site. Compost and mulch storage are located in the southeast corner, screened from adjacent properties. A rain garden along the west edge of the site captures stormwater runoff while providing habitat for pollinators. Informational and inspirational signage lines a smaller pedestrian loop, offering ongoing opportunities for education and engagement.
This project reflects Landworks Studio's belief that thoughtful design can be a catalyst for positive change. By offering pro bono services, the studio was able to support a community-driven vision that prioritizes equity, education, and stewardship demonstrating how Landscape Architecture can transform overlooked spaces into meaningful places rooted in connection. In April 2025, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place to celebrate the completion of Ruby Jean's Community Garden.

Located in the corner of East 29th street and Wabash Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri lies the site for Ruby Jean's Community Garden. The CEO of Ruby Jean's Juicery, Chris Goode, teamed up with Landworks Studio, a landscape architecture firm from Olathe, Kansas, who offered pro bono services, to bring his vision to life. At the center of the garden is a dining patio complete with two picnic tables, four swing chairs, and three patio tables with four chairs each. In 2024, Landworks Studio was approached by Chris Goode, Founder and CEO of Ruby Jean's Juicery, to help envision a community garden on his property in Kansas City, Missouri. Goode is a passionate advocate for serving others, a value that has guided Ruby Jean's Juicery since its honorary founding for his grandmother, Ruby Jean. Through both business and philanthropy, Goode has remained committed to creating opportunities that strengthen communities, and this garden represents a continuation of that mission.
