Parterre Garden

Greensboro, North Carolina
by Seay Partners

Nancy Seay was engaged to bring this space back to life and beauty to honor the owner's mother who loved roses.

The Residential Issue of Landscape Architect and Specifier News saw many firms submit their projects for feature consideration. Parterre Garden is one of several great projects we are excited to showcase on LandscapeArchitect.com.

This once beautiful rose parterre was neglected for many years and allowed to become overgrown with blackberry brambles and weeds. The new owner, began by renovating the house but once that was complete, he turned his vision to the garden. The gem of the garden lay in the potential of the rose parterre that was located across from the front entry.

The first step was to clear the garden to see what was in place from the former glory days. Once the bones of the space were apparent, we could see that there was a brick wall with railing and gates that were in disrepair. There was edging for the formal garden that could be salvaged.

A carpenter was engaged to rebuild the wooden railing and gates. Nancy Seay designed new plantings to expand the seasons of interest and supervise the installation. The owner and his daughter helped to select the roses.

Today, this space creates a welcome entry to the property and a place to take a moment to reflect on beauty and remember loved ones.
